    American Collector's Insurance?

I've had my Corvette insurance policies through American Collectors for upwards of 30 years. In all that time, I've never had any kind of claim so have no idea how they perform for those who do. I'm curious if anyone has claims experience with American Collectors and how it went.

With my policy coming up for renewal in a few months I'm considering switching to the NCM insurance plan. Does anyone have any caveats for NCM insurance plans?

I had a large claim with NCM, paid without questions even though I insisted on repairs to my car with first rate used, original and NOS parts for nearly everything. I'm not going anywhere... The only "caveat", if you think its one, is the typical driving restrictions on a collector car.

I too had a large claim when a kid t-boned my car. NCM was very easy to work with, paid repairs without question from a very reputable Corvette restoration shop that I chose. Can't go wrong with NCM!

I to was a client of there's for more than 34 years, NEVER put in for a claim. One day a few years ago one of my midyears had a electrical fire, the reproduction battery shorted out and caused the wiring harness to burn. Really not much damage (starter, wiring harness, voltage relay, horn relay). I put a claim in and they sent a adjuster to the restoration shop and looked at it. He had no problem wrote up a estimate and submitted it to the company. Well two week went by no word, call them was told they were sending someone else to look at it. The next adjuster wrote up the second estimate even higher!!, waited got a call saying claim denied, they say if the car burnt to the ground they would cover it. Electrical fire not covered because battery shorted out. This makes NO sense. Now insured with someone else.

Thank you for the feedback. I know one poor experience shouldn't condemn a company but your story, Mike L., does cause me pause. On the other hand, I've read nothing but good here for the NCM experiences. There isn't much cost difference so it's all down to customer satisfaction for me.

Frank D., American Collectors also has a yearly mileage limitation but I've never had any issues keeping the use well below the amount they allow - my yearly driving is always below 500 or 600 miles.

Yes, I understood your story was during your time with American Collectors. Yours is the only feedback (positive or negative) I've encountered with ACI -- I guess that generally says they're neither stellar nor horrible in the big picture. Your experience is maddening and it's nothing I want to encounter, so will likely switch to NCM insurance.

                Re: American Collector's Insurance?

NCM sells American Modern Insurance.. You can purchase American Modern from many local independent agents. I use an independent agent as NCM was not offering it when I switched from Hagerty. Whether you buy it form a local independent agent or NCM makes no difference, just buy it.

I currently have 2, C-2's and a GTO insured. In late November I had an accident with the GTO. I contact AMI and they told me to take photos of the damage and take the car to any repair shop that I wanted and forward the photos and repair estimate to them. They did not want multiple estimates and stated that there was no need for an adjuster to visit. The estimate was close to $6,000.

Two weeks after the accident I had a check in hand to proceed with the repairs. They were extremely efficient, cordial and professional in handling my claim. Absolutely no questions or hassle about the estimate or circumstances of the accident (it was my fault, no other vehicles involved).

Needless to say, I'm very happy.

                Don

                  Re: American Collector's Insurance?

The "front end" agents and adjusters make a world of difference to me, Adam Boca of NCM assigned a split window owner as my adjuster to work with me on my 63 coupe. So there was no "back and forth" over the rarity and expense of getting one-year-only and other expensive parts...we were sympatico throughout the process and when a supplemental claim was filed for hidden damage not first seen, it was again, painless....
Again, this was a LARGE claim ...

NCM also insures my 2002 retro Thunderbird...

When I called NCM, for a quote, a real person picked up the phone. No phone tree to navigate. I was immediately impressed.

Had American Collectors, ok but high rates. Had Hagerty, bad experience. Have NCM, great with claims, great rates, great customer service, and it supports the hobby, no brainer. Give Adam a call

Thank you all for the very kind words! It is very much appreciated! We love serving you all!

Couple things to remember when dealing with an independent agent vs us:

                              - Are they active in your hobby?
                              - Do they have direct connections to the carrier? (claims, underwriting, etc)
                              - Will they fight for you in the event of a loss?
                              - Does an independent agent with 1-100 policies with a carrier have anymore leverage than one with 10K+ customers?
                              - Are you helping support the Corvette Museum with your insurance purchase?
                              - Does your independent agent know how to talk the talk with customers (engine casting #'s, broach marks, J56, L79, etc?)

Feel free to give one of our agents a call at 877.678.7626 for a quick quote.

                              Thank you!!
