    Steering Wheel Crack

Hi, Hope you all had a nice Christmas/Hanukkah. I didn't spot any ads in the services section of "The Driveline" for steering wheel repair. I have a crack in mine ('66) which I would like to get repaired. Any recommendations?
I also noticed that Eckler's sells a "Steering Wheel Restoration Kit" has anybody used that, and if so how were theresults?
    Thanks,
    Happy New Year,
    Rob

Correct, he does not do 1966 woodgrain-style wheels.

I think you could fix it with colored epoxy material. Whether you could get the actual appearance to match is an entirely different subject.

I have used black, brown and grey epoxies for various repairs. Some are more visible than others.

depending on how big the crack is you can fill it in with wood workers wax of the right color. I did this to my Chevelle plastic wood wheel over 10 years ago you can't tell

              Keith,
First thanks for answering my post. The crack, according to my tape measure is less than 1/16 of an inch
Sending you a picture of it, do you think wood workers' was will work?

Yes I would give it a try if you can find some wax the same color. You might have to mix and make your own. I was fortunate at the time I worked in a furniture factory at the time in the finishing department and had some scraps of colors and one was just the right shade of brown. You wipe/rub it in then take a tac cloth to clean it up.

Similar epoxy products will work. However, I would be far more judicious in the application than shown in the article. Once epoxy is dry it can be extremely difficult to remove. I would fill the cracks just lower than level, and then use his paint trick to fill it in. Making "matching" paint like that was a good idea.
