Did the base motor, 230HP single 4 barrel carburetor engine use an inline AC fuel filter before the carburetor?

Helping a friend. Don't have an AIM.

There is currently no filter there, and the fuel line is configured to go straight into the carb...with no provision for a filter.

A 230 hp '61 with a WCFB carburetor has a filter inlet on the carb. The filter is built in to the carburetor.

Thank you, Dennis. That's what I thought...

I have looked online, and see that in 62, the fuel line from the pump comes straight up...a 90* fitting is placed...and a line then goes to an inline AC filter, and then to the carb.

IF my buddy wants an inline filter, he'll have to get a new gas line...or bend/reconfigure/reflare his current line to accommodate the filter.

Again the old British MIRA analysis of a brand new, base motor 61 is a great reference and here is a pic from that document. Indeed the WCFB has an internal sintered bronze fuel filter..

Thanks, Frank. I was going to EMail you, but IIRC, your 61 was a dual quad car.

You know the car we're working on. It's a 61 real FI car with the original block... but it was "converted" to a 4 barrel MANY years ago.

CS code.. 315 HP fuelie.

Our goal is to get it running and driving well... Resto will likely come later on.

62 WCFB was configured like 61 with an inline filter. 62 300hp and 340hp had an AFB and the inline filter with glass bowl.

Yes mine was dual quad (which has an external glass bowl housing a filter, originally foam, repros are paper)

Perfect timing! Checked a friend's dad's original '61 230 HP with original engine and WCFb and found the original internal filter.
