As many of you already know, Domenic Tallarita is the "go to" guy when it comes to rebuilding our old A/C compressors. I just got mine back from him today and it is truly a work of art. I just know it's going to function every bit as good as it looks. Just wanted to share with everyone. Dom is a true gentleman and artisan...a pleasure to work with. First picture shows the backing plate date cast "B227" (Feb 22, 1967) and the assembly date on the label 050472 (May 4, 1967 second shift). My car was built on June 14, 1967.

Leif:
I agree..........Dom and his workmanship are truly outstanding!!
Dom had me looking for the rear compressor dated cover for you: #6555302, with a first or second quarter 1967 date. I guess I can now stop that search.

Re: '67 A/C compressor back from Dom
Just sent Dom a compressor this afternoon. This is Sixth one I have sent him. Sent Four to him last year. When this one comes back I have one more to send him, mine! The only bad thing is the cost of shipping, it is $100.00 to ship it out to California from South Carolina, plus it takes a week out and a week back. Shipping in general has gotten ridiculous!- Top

Re: '67 A/C compressor back from Dom
Totally satisfied with the compressor Dom restored for my '66! It was quite a search for the compressor we selected. My original compressor was long gone and Dom was the right guy to go to for help in finding that proper "fit".
I was also very impressed with how he packs your restored compressor for shipping back to you. None better!

Re: '67 A/C compressor back from Dom
Beautiful job on the restoration.
I noticed the charge is 3lbs.
How things have changed.
A typical Silverado takes 25.5 oz of R124a.
That is 1.6 lbs.
I used the standard cab truck to compare to the Corvette.- Top

Re: '67 A/C compressor back from Dom
Here is an explanation from Dom as to what he does for the restoration:
"Rebuild/Restoration consists of:
2 main shaft bearings, 2 thrust bearings, 4 thrust bearing spacers, 1 pulley bearing,
6 metal rings, 6 pivot balls, 6 pivot slides, 1 ceramic seal, and all O-rings.
Cleaned all parts to bare metal and check all rotating parts for run-out. Machine valve
plates, inner case, and pulley . Polish all seal surfaces, assemble and test @ 340 PSI
nitrogen overnight. Prime & paint (semi gloss enamel) and assemble pulley and clutch
to case. Added 6 oz oil to compressor. All seals and oil are compatible with R-12 & R-134."
And, yes, the packing/packaging of the returned product was amazing. Probably could have put a dozen eggs in there and they wouldn't have broken either.Leif

Re: '67 A/C compressor back from Dom
I've posted these 2 shots before but I had to post them here again. Dom sent me these photos of an early November '65 compressor he was working on at the same time he was restoring mine. A fellow NCRS member responded to these photos and was glad I sent them out. It was his compressor! Mike

Re: '67 A/C compressor back from Dom
Dom is one of the finest. His knowledge and attention to detail is unsurpassed. He has done several for me and I had a lot of fun researching early units with different pistons with him. My highest recommendation and gratefulness for his work.- Top
