283 flywheel shim

    Bill,

    I laid my flywheel with the side facing the clutch plate laying on a piece of window glass and then measured from the glass through the bolt holes to the surface that bolts to the crank flange and got .953". So it appears as if the .050" shim is the correct shim. It is true that my earlier measurement was total flywheel thickness.

    My crank flange has a hole drilled for an index pin but no pin is installed. I don't think it is the original crank however.

      Is your crankshaft flange completely round or is it counter-weighted?

        It is completely round. No sign of any counterweight.

          Then I would opine that it originally had the indexing dowel pin.
