    Gas Filter Interchangeability?

    Just curious -

GF427 and GF455 gas filters seem to have similar if not identical dimensions. Can one be used in place of the other?

If so, why would some applications call for one over the other?

I don't recall if one was specified for Holley applications and the other for Rochester; might that have been the difference?

    Thanks,
    Larry

The GF 427 is a cellulosic element filter. The GF 455 is a sintered bronze element. In general, the GF 427 is used with Holley carbs and the GF 455 with Rochester carbs. However, I believe they can actually be used interchangeably with either carb.

I now find that the paper element GF-455 has been replaced by a sintered bronze filter with the same Delco part number. So, apparently, as of now the only filter available from GM is the sintered bronze type. That should confirm the interchangeability of the filters.

The paper element type is still available from aftermarket sources, though.
