Did the exhaust routing change after the depressions were eliminated?- Top

Re: 1963 under seat storage wells???
They were for a planned but not implemented power seat option. There was a prototype 4 seat '63 built in which the rear passengers sat in a greenhouse. It's possible, I suppose, that the wells were where passenger feet were supposed to go in that prototype.- Top

Re: 1963 under seat storage wells???
The 4 seater proposal for the 63 was just a passing thought apparently; it destroyed the lines of the car just to cram two more people into the back in abject misery..
The there was the aftermarket "kiddy" seat for the coupe - or for two double amputees...- Top

Re: 1963 under seat storage wells???
The '63 pipes had "kick-ins" for outboard clearance around the depressions. N-11 was a listed option for '63, but none built. The '64 and later C2 pipes including N-11 did not have the '63 "kick-ins, so later exhaust pipes including N-11 will not fit '63s with deep wells.
The new floor pan that eliminated the deep wells went into production pretty late in the '63 model year. I'm not sure what the deep wells were for, but a provision for power seats makes logical sense, and it makes sense that the option was cancelled, as it's so easy to manually move a single person seat rather than a bench seat.

Re: 1963 under seat storage wells???
Richard, Most definitely. Not the routing but the shape of the pipe.
My March 3th car needed a new exhaust for the restoration.(2nd one) For many years I had saved an off road exhaust system from GM.
They wouldn't begin to fit as hit the tool boxes. John- Top

Re: 1963 under seat storage wells???
Interesting Duke comment, "N-11 was a listed option for '63, but none built." Had a friend with a muffler shop that told me the bend specifications for the 63 N-11 exhaust was different than the 64 N-11 specifications - no surprise due to the deep wells, but never realized no GM units existed. (still learning) thanks- Top

Re: 1963 under seat storage wells???
Per the 1963/1964 TIMJG the carpets were cut differently under the seat for the early '63 cars with the deep, under seat wells.

Jack, It's a good thing you saved those photos. Sander posted them below but now gone.
