    2020 Convention Update

    NCRS Members,

As of today, March 27th, the Rocky Mountain Regional planned for May 28-30, 2020, in Loveland, Colorado has been cancelled due to concerns about the coronavirus. The two Chapters responsible for the Adirondack Regional planned for May 14-16, 2020, in Albany, New York are contemplating cancelling it as well out of an abundance of caution and trying to reschedule to a date in the future. The North Central Chapter is considering their options as well for the Regional planned for June 11-13, 2020, in Rochester, Minnesota. In the face of these changes, and given the uncertainty of when this virus might be behind us, the NCRS Board of Directors thinks it is highly likely we will cancel the 2020 Convention planned for French Lick, Indiana on July 19-23, 2020. We will communicate that decision as soon as it is made, and we will issue refunds to each of you who have registered for the Convention.

In the meantime, please continue to follow CDC guidance; we want to see each of you at an NCRS event when it is once again safe for us to gather together.

    Mike

It would be good to have that option for us all, thanks Mike.

            Re: 2020 Convention Update

            Hey, here's a thought:
Some days ago, there was a discussion thread which mentioned having a special edition Restorer Magazine issue. Because the likelihood of having much less meet coverage seems imminent now, perhaps that idea bears further examination. This issue would be dedicated specifically to showcasing articles written in pursuit of the Founders Award.
One main concern was the additional funds required for print and mailing costs. If the above donors, and others, are willing, how about using those donated convention fees toward a special edition Restorer? A few registrations, some banquet tickets, a tour or judging fee amount... that would certainly add up in going a good distance toward offsetting those additional magazine expenses.
It's certainly one demonstrative way to use any convention cancellation lemons toward producing a unique and tasty lemonade!
[Just an idea for examination. Sorry, I don't have a business model extrapolation to use for my proposal.]

              Brian,

You need to submit your proposal in writing to you Regional Director.

                Re: 2020 Convention Update

After conversing with the publications committee of the NCRS and running this by them (I was sitting on this and hadn't planned to post it) but it's time for me to say something...

I think it’s time for me to address some of the statements made in another thread that was closed earlier this week about The Restorer and now again here about articles and my queue once and for all and put it to rest.

Brian it’s time to give it up.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone that made the great comments in the thread about the magazine…however, it’s the membership that should be thanked, I only take what they send me and put it all together to make it look nice…the individual members submitting articles are the ones that need to be recognized. They make my job easy, and there are many!

Michael, to answer your comment about the staff, I am the staff, the entire staff for The Restorer. I do the complete layout, all the photoshop/photo work and try to put it all together to make it interesting. I am not overloaded doing both magazines and still have time to design layouts for the judging manual covers, ads in the Driveline and many more graphics for the organization/membership. And to boot, I still manage to have plenty of time to myself.

Getting back to my queue, with very few exceptions, I publish articles in the order received and usually advise members submitting articles of that. If I fail to advise someone on occasion, I apologize. Occasionally I get a request to have an article moved up in the queue because the member or subject of the article has a terminal illness and may not live long enough to see the article published…that one goes to the top of the list for the next issue, or an article about car with a special story, possibly a reunion with the original owner at the National Convention and published in the issue that covered that convention where the car received multiple awards…yes it does happen…I can recall things like this happening 3 or 4 times since I took the magazine over in 2008, and I accommodate the requests…but for self-serving selfishness, pushing to get an article published, well it just isn’t going to happen.

Part of the requirement for Founders award is to submit an article for publication AND have it accepted and fit to publish. There have been occasions that I’ve declined to accept an article because little or no effort was put forth…nothing states that the article HAS to be published, just accepted for publication. Well your article was accepted, be happy that it was.

As far as extra editions, this has been discussed with the board of directors in the past and the feasibility of such is just not worth the extra expenses or logistics associated with extra issues. Once again, it’s been discussed and isn’t going to happen.

Here is some more information…we have some very prolific and creative contributors to the magazine. Long time and newer members…I have one member whose articles are published on a regular basis and I have 12 articles of his in the queue, another member has 6 in the queue, and 2 or 3 members with either 3 or 4 articles in the queue…some long time members, some new members…

I’ll ask a question of you Brian…you’ve been a member for 20 years and how many articles have you written and submitted to be published in those 20 years? Furthermore after I advised you that your article is in the queue and will be published when it reaches the top of the queue, you still weren’t happy with my answer and use a public forum to voice your displeasure instead of coming directly to me…if you’re that unhappy with my decision, write to your regional representative to have me replaced. Bottom line is that I’m the editor and it’s my call…

None of the prolific and creative writers I mentioned above have ever asked that their articles be moved up for any reason and they continue to submit articles…I’m not getting into a war of words in a public forum, it’s just not the place for it. This thread is closed to further comments.

Well said Vinnie and it's time to close this thread since it was hijacked from its original intent...
