Source for Delco Battery for 1963

I found the Delco Group 24 Advantage battery at Menard's (Restoration Battery went out of business some time ago and so has Antique Auto Battery). They said they can't ship it because it comes to them with the acid in it. They are checking to see if they can get it from their vendor dry. Does anyone have other source(s)? Really difficult to find in the Dallas or nearby areas.

    Thanks,

    Fred

I am not aware of ANY currently manufactured Delco battery that is supplied dry. All that I am aware of are factory-filled with electrolyte and are either sealed or semi-sealed.

I find it hard to believe that there is not a retail source for Delco batteries in the Dallas area. I think you need to go to the Delco web-site to find a retailer in your area.

      Fred,

I will bet the battery you are looking at at Menards will be smaller than the original battery the car came with. Usually these battery are shorter in both length and width and the battery old down frame does not fit properly. I buy and install the AC Delco group 24 (24PG) battery in all my C2 Corvettes. You should be able to do a Google search and locate a supplier.

      James

James: Bought the above from local Menards last Fall; fit perfect for my 66 Base Engine Coupe. If it is different from the original Group 24
it can't be by too much. Larry

This battery is of the "semi-sealed" type. The caps can be removed to add water. However, I know of none of these that are not factory filled with electrolyte. For automotive purposes, the old "dry charged" batteries are a thing of the past.

Thanks to all - found a distributor about 10 minutes from the house. Purchased a Delco Professional 24PS Series (positive terminal would be positioned nearest to the motor with both terminals facing the firewall). It is the same size as the Interstate I had in previously.

              Thanks,

              Fred

                Joe,

Not sure when you posted this reference to the Battery Central Mall for your battery needs. Did you get your battery yet? I'm doing a January 1963 and these batteries do look good.

                Thanks,
                Jerry

I see the issue has been resolved.
                  As informational only;
I just purchased one from my Local Chevrolet Dealer.
They charge 20% over MSRP for GM parts. I checked them out any way as they were the only Delco dealer in my area.
They were comparative priced on the battery. Worked for me.

                    Jerry,
Have received my battery- they had an issue with the caps but they followed up and sent them to me about 6 weeks ago. Battery looks and works great. Although it took a while, they followed through commitments.
