heater hoses

On a 58 does it matter which way the heater hoses are connected to the heater box and the fittings on the intake and water pump? Both are the same size and I forgot to check when I removed the old ones a few months ago.

Howard, The hose from the intake manifold goes to the inboard hole in the firewall. The hose from the water pump goes to the outboard hole.
