    1967, Dash, Under, unknown, wire

What_is_it.jpg OK I just finished working on my dash and putting it back in. I got under it to make sure it was OK and found a loose wire. It tracked it to this. What is it, a capacitor?

I really do not want to take the dash off again if I do not need to?

    Thank you in advance!

    God bless!

That appears to be the brake switch capacitor that attaches with that switch's wires. It will run fine without it but in theory you could have radio interference. Don H.

here is a photo of the capacitor mounted on the pedal assy bracket.... as stated above, it is connected to both contacts of the brake light switch, with the wires held in position by the brake light wires. It is NOT polarity sensitive so either wire can go to either contact.

        Don,

Thank you! That makes perfect sense. Now I need to figure out where it plugs in. I will try a few books.

        God bless!

          Ted,
The capacitor has 2 leads that look like that. One goes on each terminal of the brake pedal switch. It is a 2 wire connector located right behind the brake pedal shaft. One wire is orange and the other is white. I found it is easier to slide the brass tab into the connector and then push it onto the terminals.

They say a picture is worth . .
Connectors at white arrows and then add the cap across those connectors (at white arrows) as mentioned. Picture is Stephen Lavigne

                Stephen,

Wow! Great pictures and that is how I learn best. So I should be able to take out 4 to 7 bolts and drop this down to plug it in?

                Thank you so much!

                God bless!

                  Alan,

To me a picture is the best way to learn! Thank you so much! So I should be able to drop that down with 4 or 7 bolts as I remember and plug it in? Where did you get the picture?

                  Thank you so much!

                    Hay everyone on the thread,

I just have to take a minute and really thank you all! NCRS is such an awesome organization because of people like you!

I am not a great mechanic. I have owned this car for 36 years and done what I could with it. Now that I am retired I am trying to give it the attention it deserves. Whenever I get stuck, which is often, I come here for help. You always come through. This car will never be Bloomington Gold. The engine was put into a rail the day it was purchased. However, it is my baby and I want to take good care of it.

Again from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all your help!

                    God bless you all!

You don't need to drop the bracket down. Just find the appropriate wires in the area (1 orange, 1 white) for the brake switch, place the soft copper tabs from the capacitor over the switch contacts and now slide the wire connectors on the brake wires over the soft copper tabs These hold the soft tabs in place on the switch contacts.
