C7 Key fob Not working

2016 Corvette stored over winter about 4 months. Car battery is full up as it’s been on the charge maintainer all winter. The key fob hung up about 3 feet away from Corvette. Tried to start dash says no fob detected. Put fob in window in steering column and car started right up. Other fob was same issue. Changed the batteries in both fobs. New batteries on volt ohm meter reads 3.26 volts...good. Still no fob operating anything. Yes the battery’s are installed correctly and the seal is not on battery. Tried pressing both lock/unlock at same time still no go.

What’s wrong?

Susan-, computers can do funnny things when the car sits. try to unhook battery cable and let sit for a sit for awhile. the memory settings will need to be reset.

Susan,

Have you tried any of the key fob reprogramming sequences in your owner's manual?

Susan - I hope you, Gene and your family are doing well and staying healthy.

Dan and I had a 2006 Zo6 with the same issue. Ultimately the (car) battery died, once replaced the issue was solved.

Good luck - we prefer non computer cars also!

Susan, The new Corvettes are a real joy to drive. they can put a smile on your face, and what's not to like about the fuel mileage. good luck, I hope you have a easy fix. does your car have the factory bumper to bumper warranty still in effect? I have seen many problems with the key fob batteries I always replace both fob batteries.

Re: C7 Key fob Not working

There is a service bulletin on this issue and I have included an excerpt of it below:

A customer may comment on any of the following complaints:
• Intermittent no crank
• Intermittent no start, or start and stall
• Security / Theft light / Message
• Poor or no RKE range
• Keyless or passive entry/start inoperative
• No Fob Detected message
• Service Tire Pressure Monitor message
• Any of the following DTC's: B3055, B3060, B3935, C0750, C0755, C0760, C0765, and/or C0775.

Note: On vehicles equipped with keyless/passive start, the vehicle will start if the fob is placed in the fob pocket.

In most cases, these concerns cannot be duplicated.
The above systems use Radio Frequency (RF) to transmit information. Some aftermarket devices cause Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), which can "jam" the radio frequency being transmitted.
Listed below are a number of aftermarket devices that can cause RFI. In many cases, these types of devices will be attached to the customer's key ring and could be removed from the key ring or from inside the vehicle when the customer drops the vehicle off for service.
• Vehicle immobilizer keys from other vehicles
• Keyless access transmitters from other vehicles
• Interstate/bridge toll passes
• Gate/door passes to allow access to pools, driveways, entry doors, etc.
• Community/parking access cards
• Fuel station speed passes
• Building access swipe cards/ transponder devices

Additional items to be aware of:
• Aftermarket LED dome, tail, turn, stop, strip, floor, door, Logo, head lightsIn many cases, when the LED lighting is turned on it can interfere with a RF signal. Example, RKE inoperative after the first fob button press. When the RKE fob button is pressed the dome lights may turn on, which if equipped with an aftermarket LED dome light, it can interfere with any additional fob button presses.
• Certain cell phone chargers
• USB power banks
• USB flash lights
• Fans (12 volt or 110 volt)
• Any type of USB, 12 volt or 110 volt chargers

Re: C7 Key fob Not working

Thank you John. We are bringing car in this afternoon and will share the information you provided. The car fits the service bulletin exactly.

We asked Service Tech at dealer about disconnecting the battery and over the phone was told it might disable the fob in slot from running. So figured best was an appointment. Thank you again.

The chrome bumper cars are more my speed, no computer and everything is straight forward “spark, fuel, and air” and it runs.....
These computer things blows my mind. Hand crank windows, metal key unlocks door and starts it, what could be simpler?

Susan, Just a FYI....

Do the new 2032 FOB batteries have a crosshatch pattern on the negative side? There have been reports of those being a problem on both C6 and C7, and in fact didn't work for my C6 FOBs some time ago. I used the un-crosshatched type and was fine.
...crosshatch battery...

pdp_BELSHAW_LITHIUM_BATTERY_3V_CR2032_RAYO-BEL905-4000.jpg
Also, inside the C6 FOB are the copper contacts which I have had to bend slightly to ensure a proper connection. Maybe check that too if your C7 FOB is similar.

I'm not understanding how a car battery reset(disconnect-wait-reconnect) could cause a FOB-in-column recognition problem. In all of my experience and research I've never come across that scenario.

Rich
edit.... Added troubleshooting guide table below. See attached. (RKE(Remote Keyless Entry)=FOB). Note that if the car starts with the FOB in the column, all indications are bad FOB battery. In your case I doubt both FOBs are bad. However if both FOBs are good it could be a bad RCDLR(Remote Control Door Lock Receiver) circuit module. I would try battery reset before changing that.

Well Susan the door lock mechanism could be installed on the wrong side of the car and then the metal key will have to be turned in the wrong direction to lock/unlock the door, but who would know??

The Corvette is all better. Turns out Rich in post #12 was the reason for the new batteries not working in the fobs. Good call Rich. Made no difference that the multi meter says 3.26 volts. The waffle pattern on the negative side of the battery is the cause for not working. So put this in the back of your mind that the battery needs to be smooth. No matter the p/n is 2032, it has to be smooth, waffle is NG.

THANK YOU AGAIN RICH.........
