    2004 Z06 Trunk Strut Rods

    1. How much is the trunk supposed to open to pass judging? And,
    2. Is there any vendors out there that rebuild part and date coded struts.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Joe,
I just checked the trunk lid on my 02 convertible. It pops about 1/2 inch also. I think that's about as much as it ever popped. Keeping the weatherstrip lubed helps to prevent the trunk lid from sticking.
I do not know of anyone rebuilding the struts, but that doesn't mean someone is not offering this service.

I've owned my 2004 Z06 since it was new and that's the way the trunk works. If the struts hold up the lid and there are no signs of leakage, no need to go any farther. You're good to go....

My questions are:

          Joe,

If you're concerned with Flight judging, the fact it opens is going to be what you need. If you're concerned with PV, that should be addressed in PV manual - sorry, I do not have a copy.

Trunk on my new 2003 convertible only opened about 1/2" as I recall.

You might talk to Tom Barr about rebuild struts - I think a guy in Canada rebuilds C4 struts. Given Covid border restrictions, might not be soon!

            Joe,
You might contact Pete Bergman in Arizona who is a wealth of information on these cars. I recall going to a class that he lead perhaps at last year's convention. Good luck!

Joe I had to get my struts recharged on my 2001 before it was judged
The company is in Canada and they were very reasonable and had a quick turnaround
Tom Barr gave me the phone number and contact info which is at my office not at my home
I don't know when I will be in the office So I would reach out to Tom for the info
Good Luck I look forward to seeing your car

Any weatherstrip treatment. I used to use silicone paste. For the last 10 years or so I've used Meguiars #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner.

For weatherstrip I dress with GM #12345579 silicone grease as recommended by GM and working it in well. It works PERFECTLY. Will other products work as well? Maybe.

The Canadian company is LS Technologies. Contact Nolan Fehr, 303 103rd. Street, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 1Y9. WWW.lstechnologies.ca or 306-683-5000, fax 306-683-6403 or email at info@lstechnologies.ca. Call or email first for shipping instructions. Nolan rebuilt my original struts in 2009 and they continue to function perfectly.
