Hey guys, Have a 62 340 hp car. Can't find a gas leak but there is a strong smell of gas when I drive. Any ideas where to look?

Bruce, have you look for fuel stains on the bottom of fuel tank. Fuel will leave a stain when it drys. Fuel pump also has a weep hole check that, hoses, fuel stains on intake??

The solid axle cars gas tank has a vent system. When it has deteriorated and not functioning gas fumes in the car's interior will be particularly overwhelming. Search is your friend.

Here is the Hinckley article mentioned in the other thread, one add'l consideration - avoid the tendency to top off the tank to the brim...on C1s (at least on my 61) making a hard right turn uphill would have fuel running through the vent to the filler cavity and a resulting odor. Its also important to make sure the gas tank cavity cover in the soft top storage well is sealed, although not factory, I used closed cell foam storm window insulation with adhesive on one side...rather than the messier putty the factory used.

I have read about this hose before, but I never understood what it's purpose was. I thought that maybe it was the tank vent hose. After reading the Hinckley article again, I understood what this drain hose was. I haven't yet checked to see if my 59 still has this hose, but I kind of think that it does not. CC lists this hose in the catalog.

Just checked for the hose today. What a surprise. It was there, sticking out of the rear wheel well.
