    That's what they're called.

      Thanks Joe.

I have one more driveshaft-related question. Was GM #3849500 ever a Corvette production line U-joint?

      Thanks,

      Gary

        Gary,

In Spicer Driveline terminology they are called " Tube Yokes' but many also refer to them as " Weld Yokes"

It very likely was but I cannot say for certain. In PRODUCTION, driveshafts (and half shafts) were supplied as an assembly which included the u-joints. So, without the GM drawing for the assembly, we have no way of knowing now what the part number(s) of the installed u-joint was. However, it was very likely the same as the SERVICE u-joint cataloged at the time. It could also be that the SERVICE u-joint was one of several that were optionally specified for the PRODUCTION assembly, the others never having been available in SERVICE.

As mentioned yoke came as an assembly. C1 & c2s were manufactured by Saginaw Steering Gear Division it was considered a "Proprietary Design" their print # for 56-57 was #5670052 called "Yoke - Prop Shaft Slip". The machine drawing #3712380 was called Yoke - Universal Joint Front.
                For "63 #3818917 Yoke - "U" Joint Front T-10
"63-66 #3868727 Yoke - Universal Joint Front Muncie
Too Many to list for rear etc. etc.
