    Wiring issues with the 54

Hi guys new wiring harness in the 54 the problem is when I turn the lights on or honk the horn the ammeter goes to the positive side not negative side for the discharge. Any ideas what could be wrong the schematic I used was from lectric Limited and there wiring harness triple checked everything and can't see where I went wrong. Any help would be appreciated thank you Bob

Simple. Reverse the wires at the Ammeter. Regardless of what any diagram sez, they are simply connected backwards.

Thank you Jim that did it. One other question if you can help me with polarizing the generator if you have done this in the past can you tell me how you've done it much appreciated.

Equally simple: Briefly, Momentarily, Quickly touch the Armature terminal of the generator with +6 Volts from the battery. (In saying that, it's understood or implicit that the generator is installed on the engine and is grounded.)

That said, you might try the generator first. It may not need polarizing. For all the generators I've had rebuilt, I've yet to experience one which didn't retain enough residual magnetism to work properly in as-received condition.
