    Re: 65 396 survey?

Andrew - Back a few years ago, I contacted Bill Williamson a number of times to pass along info on 65 396's I came across. Unfortunately, seems Bill didn't share his list with anyone, as far as I know. I've heard his list had grown to up around 265 cars. Too bad no one was able to continue on with it. I'm hoping there are enough folks interested in putting together a 'public' list of 65 396 info.
VIN #22155 - I've looked at the C2Registry.org and Larry Johnson's list on the Corvette Forum and didn't spot that VIN, did you know a previous owner?

        Re: 65 396 survey?

Looks like the thread '396 Survey' got a fair amount of exposure and there have been a number of 'new' 396's added since this thread started nearly '3' weeks ago. Later on in the thread, I asked for comments about how to set one up and also mentioned that it would be better to not have a single person as the gate keeper for that survey. The few lists that are available don't always include VIN numbers or options, and details. My opinion is that the C2 Registry has come up in conversation a number of times and it really seems to fit the bill. Anyone can update their listing, change the owner's name, add pics, etc. It would be, as it has been for as long as I've been aware of it, totally voluntary. If a 396 owner didn't want their info posted, don't post it. For those who like to keep the info to a minimum, that's fine too. For anyone who likes to post anything and everything about their 396, the sky's the limit. Using the C2 Registry would eliminate the single person 'gate keeper' on a list like this. And, access would be for anyone interested, not just 1965 396 Corvette Owners.

And let's not forget the Charlie Steuart [RIP] article on his Green/Saddle L78 coupe VIN 23512, in the NRS Restorer issue of Spring '88. He also had a 396 VIN 15822 before that. He writes that he had been compiling a 396 survey for two years; many early production as well as late production.

I wonder who inherited this survey ?

I agree Mike, these Corvettes are part of history and we need a list them in the Public domain. I can make a spreadsheet, based in L78's from the C2 Registry and post it here and owners can add to it. Once I work out how to put a spread sheet on the Forum, that is.

              Re: 65 396 survey?

Bill W. once told me he knew of six or seven 396 Corvettes with no radio. When I bought mine, I was excited to tell him about my no radio 396. However... he already had it listed! # 16538 is mine.

The "Peter Fonda car" is # 23182, and 194675S119092 was Blk/Blk, red in 2016 with all 396 indicators but had a 327 engine when sold in PA in 2016.

I have made a new list from the Registry and added the L78's mentioned here. How do I upload it as an xls?
                There are 199.

                  Re: 65 396 survey?

Seems like 65 396's are coming out of the woodwork. I just read a thread on the Corvette Forum where a member is asking about any problems pulling a bigblock and trans out of his 65 roadster. Turns out he's the original owner of a Nassau Blue 65 396 Roadster and has a pic of the window sticker. He lives in Alaska. I've already written him to see if he's interested in adding his cars into to a "396 Survey".

                    Gary, Mike, others,
I don't think you will be able to load an Excel spreadsheet into the TDB. To find out for sure, drop a Help Desk Ticket and ask. As an alternative, why don't you just build a personal Blog entitled something like L78Registry or 396VetteRegistry or 65Vette396Registry. Use your imagination. And then run it, or share the duty with some others so that it can be kept going ad infinitum. Blogs are easy and many are free. Or load the spreadsheet up to Windows Live, Google Sheets, or Dropbox. Lock it to where only certain ones can edit it but make the link public.

There are a couple means to upload the XLS file as an ATTACHMENT:
                          1) You can convert the doc to a PDF (up to 2.86MB)
                          2) Convert the doc to a ZIP file (up to 5.72MB)

There may be another 'sneaky' trick, but I'll let that slide for now...

This "may" be the first documented L78 released to the public. I would be very careful with any car prior to it.
