    Re: 2007 Z-06 Issues

Battery is 7 years old and need replacing. That is first. That will reset the computer as well Ill probably loose the clock but that is a story for a different day. Secondly I have ordered a scan tool and will see what codes set during this run. Lots I am sure. My next step was injector cleaner, just to see. After that??? Dang, I miss my WCFB and points!!!! Technology goes on however. That technology is why I can do 192 in the Z-06 and 130 in the 60. Life would be too easy without some issues. Thanks for the offer Chip

Jimmy, you may want to try the trick with a 9V battery connected to aux power port (used to be cigar lighter in older cars). This was done back in the 80s to maintain clocks and presets on radios. Not sure it will work with our more modern cars. I usually don't care , but understand problems can occur on the C6 cars. And yes, sometimes a new battery can repair many problems on the new cars. Chip.

Try the scan before even replacing the battery - though the 9V trick is worthwhile if you do swap batteries.

My 2008 was running erratically last month, and I've had a simple plug-in wifi scan tool for years. It pointed to #3 cylinder, and it was just a loose wire on the coil pack. Apparently that happens frequently on these cars. Drove it from MI to TN and back 2 days later and no problems. I did pick up an injector just in case, but that wasn't the issue.

You would be amazed what the scan tools can tell you. Mine sends wifi to my iPad, and gives me a complete readout of what is going on. Works as well on my wife's Mazda and my GMC truck

            Rich-
Where do I find the "how to" for the onboard diagnostics. I have a 2002 Z06.
            Thanks, Wayne

here is a lot of info on C-5's. May be what you are looking for.

don't know if this area is open to everyone. I can send you the dic codes if you can't get to it.

Google search may also work for other sites.

Update Got the scan tool. Only one code P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire. I could have told the scan tool that without plugging it in. Oh well On with my action plan.
                1. Fresh Gas with Injector cleaner
                2. Plugs
                3. PUNT!!!! Actually take it to a local shop that works with LS engines exclusively

Thanks for all the help guys!!

OK Not that many of you older Corvette model guys care about a C-6 but here is an update. Added fresh fuel. Added injector cleaner. Disconnected the battery (oddly enough, the clock still works) Drove it a bunch of miles --- NO CHANGE. Checked the exhaust manifold temp upon return and there were anywhere from 190 to 320 according to my infrared laser, Obviously a big miss somewhere. However, I have found a curiosity (i.e clue) that my tell me a lot. The clutch safety is not working. It will start in gear with the clutch not depressed. I am now leaning towards a computer failure as it drives like it is in "limp home" mode? Disconnected the battery again tonight and will drive a long ways tomorrow morning and see what happens. Thanks to all for your past advice and any possible future input.

Are you experiencing loss of power (meaning it's a slug and will arely get out of its way) and getting messages on the dash about loss of power? As I mentioned earlier, I had an issue with a check engine light, a loss of power message and a traction control message. Mine WAS in limp mode. Was a dirty connector. If any of these are your symptoms I took pics of the connector and it's location if interested. An amazing, annoying fix to a problem that should not happen.

Jimmy asked for the pics I mentioned, maybe it will help someone else one day. Mine is an automatic car with the battery in the engine compartment so the connector is between the battery and the fender. I;m aware that there are some cars with the batter mounted in the rear of the car but I'd say that the connector would be in the same spot up front. Pics of the connector assembeled and of each end once taken apart. Also a link to the manufacturers spec sheet for it:

Chip hasn't been on a road tour with Jimmy. I remember being on his bumper at 110 in couple of solid axle cars in Virginia
Those old cars don't have one those insurance models that be plugged in.
