    Another 6V 53-55 wiring issue

The vintage and modern color wiring diagrams I referenced in my recent post about 6V radio wiring show the wire to the coaxial noise suppression condenser on the ignition shielding to be pink. That is correct.

However, most people assume the continuation of that wiring from the condenser to the coil is also pink. Even Lectric Limited sells a pink wire for that application. (I advised them not to.) I see a lot of cars on the judging floor with pink wires inside the shielding. That is not correct. Both wires coming off the coil are black.

This shows again how restorers can be influenced by erroneous published information rather than paying close attention to how the cars were actually assembled. You learn from studying low mileage unrestored cars. So document everything when you disassemble your cars and verify if changes have already been made or its still original. If you are not sure how the factory did it find an unrestored car to examine. I did and I have over a thousand photos or several cars. Still there are things for us to learn.

    Troy,
Do you have the 53-55 radio service & shop manual ?
National Corvette Restorers Society! Chevrolet Radio Service & Shop Manual 1953-1955 - This manual is a partial reprint of an original 1955 Chevrolet Radio Service and Shop Manual. Technical information covers Corvette Signal-Seeking Radio #3711897 (1955) . Service of radio #3706551 (1953, 1954) is basically the same except for the change from 6-volt to 12-volt. A listing of repair parts for both

No but I do have the radio bulletin dated 7-15-53. It shows the "A" (power) lead and dial lamp lead but of course doesn't tell you where to connect them on the car.

It is obvious that the "A" lead with the fuse goes to the accessory fuse panel. But the question is where does the lamp lead go? One assumes to the rheostat on the light switch but actual observation and photos from 3 unrestored cars indicates otherwise.
