1963 wiring harness and balance hose

Hi all. Doing some work on my '63 and page 132 of the 6th Ed. JG states that up to approx. VIN#8000 the balance hose is routed inboard of hood support with 4 push in straps. After this VIN#8000 and for '64 balance hose is routed outboard of hood support with 3 push in straps. Does the wiring harness also follow this set up?

Also, on page 113 it states that early and up to approx. VIN#13500 the segment of the wiring harness serving alternator horns etc. and balance hose run inboard of the hood support. After VIN#13500 and '64 wiring harness runs outboard of hood support.

Confused as to which is TFP for my car with VIN#13739. If the TFP is after VIN#8000, I assume the wiring harness is also routed outboard with the balance hose. If it is "approx. Vin#13500" can I run both inboard since I am close to "approx.13500" and be given the benefit of the doubt during judging? Just a personal preference to run inboard....just would like to keep lines and wires away from hood support with hood closed.

    Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

the clips fell out of the inner fender, the wires and hose should run just under the fender lip. you can see holes where clips should snap in. mike.

See Noland's book pages 126, 133, 135, 177. Also note the alternator for 63 is clocked differently than 64

              Michael;

My 63 is vin 105563 with a build of 12/21/1962

Something is amiss on the date or vin.
If the vin is correct I calculate the build date around Jan 9th 1963

If you have an early alternator, with the stamps on the back half, you should be able to see the stamping when the alternator is clocked correctly.

I love to see pictures of the unrestored cars! Thanks for sharing.

Noland Adams book on page 135 shows an early engine bay with wiring and surge tank hose routed below the hood support. Also on page126 one of the pilot line L75 cars is shown with same routing however shows a little more of area when harness and hose leave the surge tank area and show that both were a few inches below the hood edge (the later change moved the same closer to hood edge)
The later routing is shown as Section 12 sheet 8.00 in both the AIM for 63 & 64. (you should have the AIM)

Indeed - which is how my May 29th car has the hose routed...it also seems like a cleaner approach with less chance of something getting nicked or damaged.

Sven, I have a 10xxx 63 car balance hose is inboard and harness is below hood support, my friends 15xxx both hose and harness are in board. The way someone told me years ago is, if you have the holes for straps on inner fender well it tells you how the the balance and harnesses are routed.I believe the very early cars has the hose and harness together-below hood support.

Now a new question comes about. On a 63 does the electric cable shown in Sec 12 A8.00 (above photo by Frank) really route below the hood support?

The 64AIM shows it routed above the bracket on 12-24-63 - to look at it from a practical extent the cable if run below would get pinched and eventually could cause a short, so good change.

So are original 63 cars seeing the cable below the hood support???

Alan in the start of 63 the wire harness is below the hood support along with the balance hose together, my 63 has the harness below support with the balance hose above support, and later both were moved above the hood support

Yet another interesting fact (in 63 running changes).
Note the area under the hood support is about 0.4" wide X 1" long (about)
The harness is 0.4 round (somewhat it can be squeezed in shape) while the hose is 0.65 round (no squeeze allowed)
So they just fit (kinda) as you mentioned in an early 63 - it's obvious why the changes were made. Thanks Ed, know you 63 guys have a lot of fun getting it right.
