67 Ignition Switch

Anyone had experience rebuilding or cleaning an original ignition switch? Couldn't find any reference in the archives...

Ralph, I've repaired a few C1 ignition switches. C2 switches are very similar. Take a look at post 1 and post 5 in this thread. It shows how I was able to open them and clean the internals.

Your 1967(1116686) switch has similar tabs to get inside. Online photos I found below. You have to carefully bend the 3 housing tabs to remove the backplate/contact base. I use a small drift and flathead driver to tap them outward. If the rivets holding the terminals are loose I'd suggest cleaning the rivet/terminal joint and soldering them.

Best to test the switch after repair and before bending tabs back in. You can use a small C-clamp to hold it together for testing. A meter with alligator clips makes it easier. Also easier to set the key tumbler back in the switch to test.

Here's how it should test....

START:
BAT = SOL = IGN1

RUN:
BAT = IGN1 = ACC

ACC:
BAT = ACC

GND: Unused

Many, many, many times. Some are very much in need of service, and others look like they were hardly ever used.
