    c2 starter bendix drive?

I have a DR starter drive part # d2049 10456422. Does anyone have a part # application reference for this part?
I know the Bendix drive part # for all c2 starters is #d2008 1954842. Does anyone know if the d2049 is a newer superseded part #
    for the d2008?
    Thanks,Dennis.

    Dennis,

    Go to http://www.gmpartswiki.com/query

enter 10456422 and there will be many pages of applications. Looks like mostly 80's and 90's when I did a quick check.

I also checked 1954842 and there is a page with Dec 1981 History info here....

    States 1954842 use 1875687

then I checked 1875687 and the Nov 1990 History book info here....

    States 1875687 use 10456422

So it looks like they match.

Rich, Thanks for the info. I will keep the website you provided in my favorites list which will be helpful in the future.
I will be using the drive for my c2 starter rebuild.
      Thanks,Dennis.

Yes, the GM #1875687 was discontinued in April, 1990 and replaced by the GM #10456422. The latter lived a short life and was discontinued in May, 1992 and replaced by GM #10470757. It was discontinued several years ago.

Believe it, or not, once-upon-a-time these starter drives were GM "exchange items". In other words, there was a core charge included with the part and the drives supplied could be rebuilt units, rather than brand new.

Joe, I was thinking of you when I did that research. I was hoping you'd help to confirm what I found....Thanks.

Interesting about the rebuilt drives. Did they use the same part#? Maybe with a "R" at the end of the number?

No GM SERVICE part numbers ever had an alpha character suffix.

The "exchange" starter drive was GM #1954842. It was discontinued in March, 1981 and replaced by the GM #1875687 which existed prior to the discontinuation of the 1954842. The 1875687 was not an "exchange" item. Although long-since GM discontinued, the 1954842 would work for any 1957-82 Corvette starter.

Thanks Joe. Makes sense they used a new number.
