vintage GOOD YEAR tire logo stencil

    Guys,
I've just read that for the filming of FORD vs FERRARI the producers considered the price of original Goodyear vintage racing tires too expensive and so resorted to stenciling the large vintage lettered GOOD [winged foot here] YEAR logo onto generic blackwall tires. It looks very good and quite genuine (see Oct 2020 issue of Corvette Magazine) on the '64 coupe supposedly raced originally by Penske. Any idea where such stencils can be sourced? I have blackwalls on a couple of my C2's and C3's and would love to try my hand at a little fakery.

"...the '64 coupe supposedly raced by Penske." indicates that you missed a few high points - this was the '64 coupe that first appeared as Bob Bondurant's '63 blue SWC, but with a '67 BB hood; then got painted red (brush?), got its hood back and did an imitation of Penske's '66 BB but without the hood and with the '64 fenders and w/o the aluminum fender well expansions, turning it into a COVER CAR for Corvette Magazine. And they wonder why the portrayal of Phil Remington as a "salesman" was criticized. Goodyear used to produce reproductions Blue Streaks. Go buy a set.

IRS may want to try an audit on what the company claimed to have expended for vehicles for the movie.

You might want to contact Greg (FLYNAVY30) over on the CF. Attached is a photo of his '64 Daytona Blue L-76 coupe. The tires are 205/70R15 Avon CR6ZZ on 6" American Torq-Thrust wheels.

          Great looking car!!!

This is what I did with the vintage Firestone Sport Car 200 tires I have, I bought a tire marker from Coker and colored in the outlined black wall logo on the tire......if you can find or make a stencil, you could probably do that with it.TiresBefore.jpgTiresAfter.jpg

Yawn. Now, about the vintage Good Year script stencil which--you may have noticed-- is the header of my thread and the only thing I'm interested in??

here is member Wayne Yurtin applying the Tirestickers to his 64 coupe with Coker American Classic tires. He's put a lot of miles on the car and the stickers stay stuck.

Very interesting. Up until today, I didn't know that such stickers or stencils existed. I wonder what else I have left to learn...

                            Tom,
that is not a stencil. It's stick on lettering. Rubber material I believe.

                              Hi Guys,
The tires on the '64 that Don referenced are mine. As he was mentioning, they're actually a thick rubber material that you glue onto the tire. I drive that car a lot, so I wanted radials on it, but with that old school raised white letter GoodYear look. You can order any size you want (TireStickers.com) and I went with a 2.5" decal height. To give you a feel of cost...it was $120 for set of 4 decals (back in 2018). I put them on a set of 205/75-15 American Classic Coker radials. Unfortunately, those tires from Coker only come in whitewall, so I turned the whitewalls inside and used tire "blackout" paint on the whitewall portion. The thick rubber letters glue on (with the provided glue). I've put several thousand miles on that car since adding the letters and I've never had any of them come un-glued. By the way, when ordering the decal, you also specify the tire size that they're being applied to (so that they can ensure the curvature of the decal is correct). A couple more pics attached...

                              Thanks,
                              Wayne
