    Understanding Shock Absorbers

I'm guessing that the springs are what carry the weight and establish ride height. So I'm also guessing that shocks are designed to control the moving suspension weight so there is a difference in the valving, diameter and other. So if I'm at all in the ball park what would you expect if you put the front shocks off a 63 C-10 pickup on the rear of a midyear corvette. I'd guess the C-10 A arms and hubs and wheels/tires would weight more that the corvette rear but not a lot so the shock would be stiffer....does this seem right? What would you expect in the corvette ride?

I can get the shocks but wonder if it would be a waste of money. They would be period correct oil filled shocks.

Just buy the correct shock or replacement.

Just get you some AC/Delco modern shocks and take the stickers off - they should be black (IIRC that's correct for 63, later shocks being gray) and you'll get a nice ride, not spend a lot, and, get some OEM judging points if that matters to you.

Both of these are worthwhile opinions which are also stated in many places on this forum....but I do some crazy things sometimes and was hoping to learn something here. I did read a post where one of the sages on this foum said the oil filled were a better ride. I know I can buy the Delco or Gabriel (same shock) on Rock Auto for $18 to $24 each.

Larry, This not answering your question. The replacement shocks had a Delco label on them. Also have made in Mexico. At least some of them have that.
My '63 FI car has the original shocks on the front and '69 Corvette shocks on the rear. Talk to Dan Patch about shock info. Take care, John
