    Peter,

    I believe the by the book temperature number is 68-70*, at that temperature the choke blade should slap closed tight.

      Peter, if your in a hot climate area where temps are warm enough not to close the choke you can find a happy medium for setting the choke on a cold engine. But generally a hot day(s) you really don’t need a choke to be fully closed. I cannot really say why all the notch’s on either side of center,GM have a lot of different climates to make one carb. Adjust to, then add the ethanol fuel on top of that. Being a Automotive Mechanic for over 40 years. I have always had a hard time getting them run good at every temp. Thank god for electronic fuel injection.
