Hey Guys,
Anyone know where I can get a NOS or rebuilt Balancer for a 1965 high performance 327. Have tried CC, Paragon, Zip, chicago corvettes, trim parts? no one seems to have one. Do not want to wait for a rebuild. Damper Doctors was recommended but the review was not good? Any suggestions where I can find one?

PS, just checked and there are several on e-bay. Not cheap either. I sold mine too cheap according to those prices.

For 1965 the L-75 was the "high performance" engine option. The L-79, L-76, and L-84 were the "special high performance" 327 engine options.

I'm going to assume that what you are asking about is the special high performance engine balancer. That was GM #3817173. However, there were two versions of this balancer. The first version used from 1962 to 1966 had "fins" on the reverse side of the hub section. The second version, used for 1967-68, had no fins. Your chances of finding an NOS example of the "finned" version are about as good as the chances of the people in hell getting ice-water. This version has not been available in SERVICE for more than 50 years.

In any event, if it is the special high performance balancer you are seeking, there are plenty available on eBay, either NOS (non-finned) reproduction, rebuilt or used. Search under 3817171. NOS, reproduction, or rebuilt will not be inexpensive, though. As far as used goes, well, you probably already have one of those and with used you don't know if the ones available are any better than the one you have.

I used Damper Dudes to rebuild my '69 balancer when I had the engine done several years ago. It has functioned perfectly since. Very happy with the price, turn around, and quality of work.

I think the design was changed sometime during the 1967 model year. I have no idea when.

I would like to add to this thread that I just ordered a harmonic balancer for my 65 327/300 from the local Chevy dealer (P/N 3896904). Cost $112. So, atleast for the 300hp, GM is still selling them.

I'll have the engine out this winter and will have the crank drilled so I can add a bolt to secure the balancer.

Joe, The dealer I called said a the source was a warehouse in Michigan which I believe was a GM parts warehouse. It will take a week or so to get the part so we'll see. I hope I don't get something I don't need as this was a special order and is non-refundable.

If you're talking about a 300 HP balancer a replacement which is virtually identical to the original is available from Pioneer under their part number DA 3270
