      The fit must be out of tolerance. If you are lucky the crank snout isn't worn under size and the replacement will go on with a press fit.
      IF you have access to a 1-2" micrometer you can measure it in several places around the circumference to check for wear.
      Excuse me if i am stating the obvious.

          Thanks Rick. The new balancer was pressed on with the tool required. We shall see but at this point it is what it is, as they say.
