Our 1998 coupe has developed dash issues. The DIC(DRIVER information Center) seems to be off in its own world. Cycling through non stop, buttons unresponsive. Can't get it to reset. Speedo ,odometer still working. When starting the car, dash goes through its start up sequence normally. Any ideas? Anyone that repairs these units?

Re: 1998 Dash Issues
Tim,
Several years ago a friend's '97 had similar issues. The DIC was intermittently cycling and wouldn't stabilize when hitting any of the DIC control buttons including the Reset function.
We got a new DIC switch assembly, me assuming the digital circuits reside there. After getting the console and dash apart and replacing it, the problem remained. The DIC switch cable plugs into the main instrument cluster. I then removed the cluster to check for any obvious issues in the connector or circuit board. I traced it further into the cluster circuit board. Nothing visually wrong. Since the digital electronic circuitry for the DIC resides in the cluster itself it was then obvious to me that is where the fault resided.
He opted not to send the cluster out for repair/exchange and I put everything back together and he just ignored the DIC problem from then on. He sold the car later.
It's possible your problem is similar but it may be worth a check of the DIC switch cable and mating connector on the cluster to make sure it's a solid connection. It's also possible your DIC switch is bad. You could just swap that out but it may be worthwhile to send both out to a shop.
Ken Anderson at K&B in Georgia has the capability to test and repair yours. I would go to him first. (770) 777-1031

Re: 1998 Dash Issues
HI Rich,
We also removed dash with no luck, cleaned up contacts. Shortly after the problem started the battery croaked, thought maybe it was a low voltage issue. New battery same same. Switch assembly will change some settings but my guess is circuits wacky. Thanks for tip on Ken. Will be in touch with him tomorrow.- Top
