Timken bearings for 66 front hub; preferred vendor?

Also, I have a set of GM/Delco NOS hubs/rotors that already have the bearing cups installed. Should I remove those NOS cups and install the Timken cups that come as part of the Timken cup/cone set? Or can I leave the NOS GM/Delco cups in place?

    Thanks,

    Gary

You can use the Timken bearings with the existing bearing cups. This will avoid possible problems with the complete seating of the cups if you try installing them yourself (a very common problem). These "sets" are not really a "matched set"----just a bearing and cup in a single package for convenience. You should also be able to buy the bearings without the cups but as inexpensive and easily available as the sets are, that's probably the way to go.

By the way, you may very well find that the Timken bearings you receive are of foreign manufacture. Timken has bearing plants all over the world.

One of the original hubs from my ‘66 was serviced in 1998, has Timken bearings. The outer bearing says Brazil on it; the inner bearing says Canada. It will be interesting to see what the new Timken bearings list as country of origin.

Brazil was a common source country for Timken wheel bearings of 20, or so, years ago. Now, you might find China as the source. It's a "grab-bag" as far as source country goes----you find out when you have the bearings in-hand. However, if it's a Timken bearing, the quality should be the same regardless of country of manufacture.
