Gary, if by passes muster you mean takes no deduction in judging I would say your example passes muster. The front springs are worth a total of four Orig points. The indent tape couldn't be worth more than one point out of the four. I can't conceive that the number of teeth in the serrated edges could impact the deduction. In fact I know it wouldn't.

Think this might answer the question. One pair is NOS Daytona Spring and the used one is original removed from the Vette. Clearly both are straight cut and no postage stamp edge.

I’m sure you are right. There is also the fact that the ends of the tape will be nearly impossible to see when installed with the ends inside the coil. For any judge who does see the end and thinks the zig zag cut is too coarse, maybe it would result in a note, or a dot in the margin. But I don’t like dots, so I’m going to pursue this research a bit further. The peaks of the zig zag cuts in my repro are just over 3/16”, or about 4.7mm. The peaks on a postage stamp are right around 2.0mm. The reason I switched to metric is because I found pinking shears used in sewing that can be bought with a triangular zig zag shape to the cut that are 2.0mm peak-to-peak. They cost about $12 inc shipping from China. So, if I can convince myself that 2.0mm triangular zig zags are correct, I’ll buy the 2mm pinking shears, which should squash the dot in margin possibility. These little projects are fun, when they can be solved.

                        Gary,

I bought these shears for making spring tags. Getting them from China during COVID is hit-or-miss, and takes forever.
Send me your tags and I'll cut the ends if you wish.
