    PSCV Question

I am in the process of rebuilding my power steering control valve. There is no zerk fitting for greasing. I am getting conflicting information. Is the grease I apply to the ball stud housing adequate or do I need to put a zerk fitting in and grease once after assembly? Also wondering when I reinstall the valve if I can leave the ball stud to pitman arm loosely attached until I verify no leaks? It was a real chore getting the ball stud free from the pitman arm and I destroyed the dust cover in the process so I don't want to that again. Thanks in advance for your help.

There is no need for a grease fitting on the adapter section of the control valve assembly and I would not install one. Greasing through this fitting can cause failure of the valve. If you've properly greased the stud and stud chamber when you rebuilt the valve and properly installed the seal, that's all the grease you'll ever need.

You can leave the ball stud loose from the pitman arm during the testing. However, I would not leave it real loose. Just tighten the nut finger tight.

Thanks Joe. Just waiting on a stud boot and I'm going to hook it up and see how my rebuilding skills are. Rebuilding was pretty straight forward. I just worry about quality of seals. I bought a Gates kit and it was made in Mexico.
