    Big brake question

Our '57, along with 7 other Corvettes and 9 classic Chevy's, were lost in one of CA's devastating wild fires back in August. Of course the body is gone, but there are a few parts that I think should be worth something. This car had the big brake backing plates (small screen). Not original to the car as the car was too early, #411. Someone has had a listing in the Driveline for some backing plates for $2000 each, for several months. So, are they worth that much, or just not in demand?
    thank you

Ken, So very sorry how you were affected by those fires. It's sad and hope you and family are doing ok.

There are many folks here that know the values of BB and HD parts. I'm sure you'll be getting PM's soon if not already.

PS If you don't get much feedback for value, a idea might be to put them on Ebay with a very high reserve and see how they do. That'll give you a idea of the market, and also put them in our Online Classified section maybe with a $ or Best Offer note and collect some offers then decide.

They have been listed at that price several times because they are overpriced, imho.

Demand is low as no one is restoring Big Brake cars at this time. I have a client looking for wheels cylinders for the rear however. Do you have any?

The number on the rear wheel cylinders is 7565 17. I do not know if they are correct.
This 57, #411 (mid Oct. 56) also had factory traction bars, but again the car was too early for them also. So, I have often wondered if it was raced, but I have never been able to find out. Unfortunately it's too late now as it was destroyed in one of our famous CA wildfires. Any thoughts?

Yes, I have Hagerty and they gave me the agreed value on all of my cars. they were great to deal with.

To answer your question on rear wheel casting number. It is incorrect for 'HD 57 brakes.

Thank you. I kind of expected that.
