Steering part #3741378. Where does it go?

In my '53-73 parts catalog, Group 6.874, "Seat-Stud,Steering Connecting Rod", shows part number 3741378 for years '63-73 without power steering. Two are required per car, and are described as a "ball stud". Part number 3829448 called a "Stud, ball", is also called-out for the years 63-73 without power steering. One is required per car.

Where the heck do these go? I don't remember encountering these whenever I disassembled the car. I can't find them in the '69 Production Manual, and, I apologize, I don't have any pictures.

    Thanks for any help,
    Rich Kossum

    Rich,

Those two items are the socket and ball sides, respectively, of the stud that goes inside the end of the relay rod.

      After
If your ball stud has signs of wear(oblong, not round) like this one did replacement is suggested.

        Gentlemen,
Thanks much. I know now exactly what these parts are, and that I need to find them. I'm going to change my car back to manual steering from the power steering that I "upgraded to" in the '70's. I'm tired of the system leaks !!!
Richard, a special thanks for the pics. They show exactly what I need.

          Rich, Glad the pics helped.

I did just the opposite on a different(from above pics) '67 BB years ago, from Standard Steering to N40 PS. Had some parts left over.

IIRC those small parts you need are available in reproduction. Yes, a complete kit Here or Separately Here

You may already know this but, when you switch back you'll also need some other Standard Steering parts. Not sure if you have them saved away or not.

Relay Rod (3955512) and those other pieces above Ref here
          Pitman arm (3829451) Ref here

I can't recall the Std Relay Rod and Std Pitman arm is available in reproduction. If not, used is your only option. I now see the 63-68 is available as a reman, but not '69? Here Unsure what the difference is.

Also may need some other items based on what engine is in your '69. Not sure if the non-Hi Perf engines used the steering ABSORBER or not.
not... never mind, just checked the P&A shows up to '68 but not '69. Not in '69 AIM either. So not a issue I guess.

You will need to move your tie rod ends from the forward steering arm holes to the rear holes. You can measure your existing toe then adjust the tie rod tubes to match original setting to get close. I'd recommend a new shop alignment afterwards.
