327, L82 cam, durabond cam bearing choice

    Looking at durabond ch-4 or ch-8 for a L82 cam in a 63 327.

Look at ads for ch-8 and it says for 1964 and up?

Why? same block, cam dimensions the same, so what;s different?

See recommendations for both ch-4 and ch-8, can't find spec differences either.

    which to use?

    Thanks,
    joe

Assuming that your block cam journals are standard size (which is likely), the CH-8 set is the one you need. The CH-4 set has oversize OD for oversized block cam journals.

By the way, I highly recommend Durabond cam bearings. They are superior to all others, including GM bearings.

      Joe,
decision for durabond based on your past recommendations.
      Yep, all stock.
thanks again! I searched the durabond site, different sites w/o success for differences.
Why do they advertise the ch-8 just for 64 and up?
      Happy thanksgiving!

It's like this: Durabond's website is nowhere near as good as their bearings. Absolutely nowhere near as good!

Are the “high-performance” or “coated” versions of the Dura-Bond cam bearings, the CHP-8, or the CHP-8T, not worth the extra $10 or $40 cost, respectively?

For a street engine I think the regular CH-8 are just fine. Better than OEM which is something that does not happen too often.

OK. I assume you meant to say the CH-8.

                Joe,

Here’s a portion of a page from the 2014 Dura-Bond PDF catalog. The column at the far right is for high performance. The column just to the left of that one is the “regular” (my term) performance part number. Those entries are the only ones listed in the catalog for GM 327 engines. I don’t know why ‘62-‘63 are different from ‘64 onward.
