    67 BB radiator question

    Hi.

I'm going to restore my radiator.
I discovered that someone has soldered a pipe with a petcock instead of the brass plug that should be on cars made before January 1967.
Does anyone have a photo of what it should be like?
How should the plug be mounted?
Is there a "nut" on the inside of the radiator?
What size should it be on the brass plug?

I appreciate your attempt to restore that radiator but after you fix that issue and recore you'll have pretty close to the price you would pay at Dewitts and they are damn near identical. if you order one - make sure you tell them to make the cut outs on the bottom the same as the top and paint gloss. usually I have to repaint with a higher gloss - but its worth it knowing it will perform as new

Orjan, All BB radiators I've worked on had the petcock so not sure about that female fitting but I'd think it would be just soldered to the bottom tank with no internal nut. Not sure of size.

PS Gents.... Orjan is in Sweden so I think that's why he's repairing what he has. Shipping over the water can get really expensive, along with customs delays and duties.

          Orjan,
There are several original 1967 Harrison radiators on eBay with a few good photos. Perhaps looking at them will help.
here is one of the 2 I saw.

The more I think about this, weren't the radiators identical but some time in production it used the pipe plug, and some used the petcock?

So wouldn't the female threaded fitting in the bottom driver side of the tank be the same for either?

Here's a Dewitt's restoration radiator I got for a '67 restoration I did 8+ years ago. Sorry last photo of the petcock is a bit blurry and doesn't really show the female fitting very well.

Here's a close-up of one of those photos showing the female fitting.

I don't believe this radiator is original 67

the holes should be the same as the top

Are you sure this is not a simple case of someone having removed the brass plug and installed a petcock?

That's what I was thinking also. Same radiator, different pieces that thread into it.

Gentlemen. Thanks for all your posts and photos.I have been in the radiator shop. They do not have a 100% correct core for the radiator and the tanks must be adjusted.I think you'r right Joe, Someone replaced the plug with a pipe and a petcock.I have a "correct" radiator from DeWitt but it is not 100% correct. Therefore, I wanted to restore my original radiator.I know DeWitt had radiator cores on their website but I can not find it on their website anymore.
