    1971 Carb date code question.

I have been in search of a correct date code carb for my 1971 350/270hp automatic with AC,PB,PS,PW. My build date is 12/12/1970.
I found a 7041212 with a date code of 2020. Is that too early for my engine as it pertains to Judging points?

Re: 1971 Carb date code question.

Not really. That comes to July 21.

These carbs were built in batches. If you look around, you might find batches built every X number of weeks, for example.
The next build might have an early September date, and then mid October, for example. Those would be closer, but all are acceptable within the 6 month window.

Odds are that the original carb date was much closer to December than July, however.

      Thank you Patrick.
I've been searching for a while via eBay, and Craigslist using the Search Tempest tool and have only found this one on eBay so far.

No disagreement with Patrick I too feel the car would have something dated closer.

Your car was built something like 3 weeks after the strike ended, IF the engine is original, what is the Assembly date just curious if it is pre strike or post strike.

If you need a carb and find one with the right PN but wrong date, consider getting it if it's in good shape and the right price. You can always sell it later if/when you find the "correct" one. Odds are you'll at least break even or make some money; I wish my portfolio went up as much as Corvette Q-Jet prices over the past five years.

I'm replying again to this thread because I was recently told that because my 1971 model year car was built in Dec of 1970 engine date V1202 the correct carb would be a 7040212 and that engines built after 1971 would have a 7041212. Either one would have a production date of 2360 or earlier.
              Which carb is correct???

The fourth digit is the model year, not calendar year.

                  7040212 with a Dec 1970 date doesn't exist.
