    63 Clutch to Flywheel Torque Value

    I can't seem to be able to find the torque value for the clutch to flywheel on my '63 340HP engine. I have looked in the shop manual and the assembly manual to no avail. Am I correct assuming it's 35 lb. ft. based on the bolt size?

    Norm;
    I checked the 1963 Shop Manual Supplement thinking it had to be there.
    It stated:
    "Only service procedures that change from the 1961 will be covered in this section."
    The torque spec were not included. Anyone have the 1961 Shop Manual Supplement? It should be there.

    Diligently torque these bolts. They are a low grade bolt, which is counter intuitive, but they will break easily.

    The shop manual for 72 says 35 ft lbs (in the engine torque section).
    I think you are good using the 35 ft. lbs.

      Agree with 35 ft-lbs. These should be Grade 5 bolts if I remember correctly............although some folks do install Grade 8 as an upgrade.

      The threads in the factory flywheel are likely the limit regarding torque.

      These bolts need to be tightened in small increments in a star pattern, up to the final value. This is so that the spring force of the pressure plate against the flywheel is applied evenly, and without PP distortion.
