    65 wiper motor washer pump

I cannot get my recently restored wiper motor washer pump to pump. Bench tested several switches and they show continuity on Lo, Hi, and wash. In the car with battery and ign on wipers work but no washers. I cannot hear washer pump solenoid.

    Regards,
    Dave K.

    Dave,
Have you tried "priming" the line with water, reinstalling it and see if it draws? I recall doing that on my 66 and I know I have done it a few times on my 72. Alternatively, I take the tube off of the motor, fill my mouth with water and fill that way.

No powerat the brown pump wire but wiper motor works and washer pump has same source of power as wiper motor.

I used a DVM to measure power at the washer brown terminal. Wilcox says not to use a DVM but to use a 12v tst lamp?

              Dave,

To me, based on your latest, the problem is the switch itself. I had the same problem with my wiper/pump after it was restored. it worked on my bench, but after installation, the pump was a no go. Spent several hours with jumpers until I decided that the switch was the problem and ordered a replacement. Then it worked great and there was NO NEED to prime it.

Be be advised, these replacements are very fragile, the crimping is very weak at best.

I have no power at the brown wire going into the washer pump

                  Dave,
Since you said the wipers work, then you must have power on the brown wire, center wire of three, for the wiper motor. However since you said you have no power on the brown wire for the washer, that wire is open. Someplace between the terminal for the washer and the junction of brown wires. This junction is (I believe) located under the dash and not in the engine compartment.

All the switch does is provide the path to ground.

Yes, strange but likely a open in the harness at that junction inside the harness, or the brown wire is broken between the junction and the washer connector.

It could also be corrosion of the female terminal right at the pump. I'd pull the connector off the pump and using a alligator clip or solid method of attachment, connect your + meter lead on the Brown wire terminal, and good ground on the meter - lead, Key to ACC, and start wiggling the Brown wire and then under the dash wiggle the harness around while a helper observes the meter.(or long meter leads and take the meter in with you) The wiper wiring goes through the area near the speedo cable grommet then inside.

You may get a intermittent voltage reading to help narrow down where the open is.

Re: 65 wiper motor washer pump

Problem fixed. Root cause seems to be the brown wire connector going into the washer pump. Once I confirmed that the brown wire was hot, I removed it from it's plastic holder and cleaned it, bent the lock tab up, reinserted it into the pump connector and Voila, all works. Thanks to all for your advice.

                      Happy Holidays,

                      Dave K.
