    Interior Color

    Hi,

I have a 1966 Coupe. The passenger side dash pad is bad. I ordered a new one from Ecklers. My car's interior is Trim 420=Saddle Vinyl. The new pad is a very light tan color. My interior is a very light brown. Ecklers will take it back but that doesn't help. Were there multiple color tans? Does anyone know of someone that can dye the new one?

All replacement tan interior items for 66 are the wrong color. You will need to go to a local paint store and have a dye mixed to match your original interior parts. Shades of tan on various items did vary but they all were darker than what you get from vendors.

If you going to replace the passenger side dash pad why not do the drivers side as well then they'll match. You might check with Corvette America and see if there saddle dash pads are darker. I know I was very happy with my 67 dark saddle door panels from Corvette America and they fit perfectly.

I had the same issue while restoring the light saddle interior of my '70. As Russ suggested, the best solution I found is to have a paint store mix some dye that matches the interior, and dye the reproduction parts. It's called dye, but it's just flexible paint designed for vinyl and plastic. I also used it on the steering column and other metal trim bits.
