    Who's rebuilding wiper transmissions now?

Tested my wipers today once again and the driver's side progressively moved outboard as it wiped and would not move back to the Park position. I pulled the wiper arm and couldn't move the splined transmission shaft by hand but when I put some pliers on it, it could be moved outboard. I suspect that the discs are not engaging as they should but I am not sure that I want to tackle a rebuild on it. Is Jay Maxwell still working on these? Are there any other recommended rebuilders of these transmissions?

Keith yes I believe he's still at it. If you tried calling and haven't heard back yet I'm sure he will. Probably taking a break.

Since Tom Maxwell's passing I think Jay Maxwell is basically it and I provided you his contact info via PM on that "other" forum.
I have had some limited success rebuilding the transmissions myself but sometimes they are beyond repair.
Mary Jo (vettegal on eBay) occasionally sells one or two rebuilt ones but not often.

Before you send the transmission off you might try spraying some PB-Blaster down the shaft and let it sit for several hours (overnight?) and then try to gently push DOWN on the splined shaft to work the mechanism that releases the locking pawls a few times.

Not TOO hard a push or you can damage things.

I'll give that a try Frank. They were working okay previously then all of a sudden went cattywompas (something you might expect at a PV). As you suggest, I think that the pawls are not engaging for some reason.

I should have added to put a towel in the floorboard to catch any penetrat that may drip down.

Thanks Frank. I pulled the wiper arm, nut and bezel yesterday but there's no way to get penetrant down the shaft as the splined cap that the arm fits over is staked to the end of the shaft.

Some have suggested contacting Steve Hackel as he does all the wiper motor rebuilds. Heard from Steve Hackel yesterday and he does not repair wiper transmissions. He said that, like the wiper motors he repairs, wiper transmissions all end up on the same guy's work bench no matter who you hire to get it done - Capital, Corvette Central, Ecklers, Clocks by Roger, etc. I did not know this. He said to call the parts guy at Corvette Central who can help me out.

Yes I still rebuild wiper transmissions, plus washer pumps and wiper motors.
