    Michael,

    go to https://www.ncrs.org/services/histor...nt-service.php
then go to Shipping Data Report Service
The information consists of the dealer code, dealer zone number, dealer name and dealer address (if available) and the date the car was produced. No other information or any types of documents are available.

The good news is this should allow you to find the original dealer where your Corvette was sold and possibly open the door to finding more information about your Corvette. This service is included for no fee with the Award Confirmation Document. A letter containing the information you requested will be mailed to your NCRS address on record. The cost for this service will be $40.00 USD. Pay by Credit Card or PayPal.

Refunds will be processed if none of the above information is available or provided.

    thx,
    Mark

Unfortunately Mark, this service is only available, (according to the drop down menu on the order page), up to the year 1975. I would like to have had a simple service like this, but it's evidently not available for a 1979 owner.

                Michael

NCRS' "Birthday Book" indicates 33339 built on Tuesday May 1st, 1979.

Your Trim Tag, driver side hinge pillar, has a body build date stamp as well - "J01" would be May 1st for 1979.

"Shipper" invoice is available from GM Archives for 1977 and forward Corvette. "Shipper" has dealer, date, options, etc much like a tank sticker.

GM Heritage Archive is GM's global repository of historical photography, motion picture film, video, digital media, and vehicle documentation.

Thank you Leif, the C3 Registry? Could you send me a link to their site, I'm familiar with it's existence but haven't located or investigated it yet.

Jack, I just checked it out and they seem to only have build date data for Cadillacs...they have invoices for 77 and newer, but those invoices don't have build dates on them according to the sample they provided.

                    Thank you for the lead.

To answer that part of your question, according to the Corvette Birthday Book, production began August 28th, 1978 and ran until September 28th, 1979. Total production, 53,807.

Dave, I checked out the sample shipper invoice on their site, and it had shown no build date, so I thought that wouldn't be what I need. But, I just ran out to the garage and opened the door and looked at the trim tag. It has J01 on the upper right corner of the trim tag! I'm happy. Please tell me where you got the cypher data for these codes? I'd like to have this information for me for other C3's too. Please inform me where I can get my hands on it.

                        Thank you so much.

I guess I need a 'Birthday Book'! Thank you sir for the info and where to get it.

                          Many thanks,

The letter is the month; the number the day of the month. Month A = 1st month of production (August in your case). ==> J = May.
Except for oddball model years like 1970, August is typically the first month.
