Food for thought - Is a Corvette truck next?

I just read this article on cnbc.com. Not world shaking news but food for thought.

    Jeff -
Are the hurrying to Copy FROD?
Saw one yesterday - nice looking SUV, but no way a Mustang from current or the original - you can't count the 80's as that was a cross between a Pinto and an Escort.

If they ever did this, huge mistake.

Yup - follow the path that pretty much ruined the Thunderbird, take a sexy two seater sports car and turn it into a bloated passenger car and try to still appeal to the sports car demographic...

Because that's worked oh so well in the past. For instance, the newer 4 door Porsche sports cars look obscene to me. And Morgan-Stanley predicts a market segment in the billions, yup those green eyeshade accountants are no doubt dialed right in to the sports car scene...

Porsche may be their inspiration... a VW sports/luxury brand that expanded (to the aghast of 911 enthusiasts) from a single sports car model to a range of sports cars, SUVs and now EVs. SUVs are now 80% of sales.

What if Corvette was its own brand within GM?

Michael, you want a Corvette tow vehicle to haul your tankers around.

Won't be the first time - as previously stated, Mustang is doing it, Porsche did it, they have full size sedans as well as several sizes of SUVs - it did not appear to have hurt their reputation or sales. Not that I agree with or support the idea. Considering the entirety of the global "auto" industry where "light trucks" actually are outselling sedans and SUVs by a huge margin, I am surprised that we are not reading about GM entertaining the idea of manufacturing a Corvette truck. OK, go ahead - kick me off this forum for even thinking a thought like that ---- I deserve it. I wonder I I will be able to get on with a duelie axle in the back?

Ha! No thanks. And I have a 911 Porsche, Porsche did not name the Cayenne or Panamera "911s", for good reason, neither should GM or Chevy name an SUV a "Corvette", why not name it "Nomad"?

This could get complicated - for one, they are going to have to add a whole new (big) wing to the NCM for "SUVs & trucks) and second, the Judging Manual is not going to be fun to write at all.

But it will be easier to slide underneath for chassis judging.
