Made It To 50!

Hello All,
50 years ago today, Feb 10, 1971, I purchased my 69 Corvette. I was fresh out of active duty in November of '70 and just had to have one of these ultra modern, T-top coupes. I couldn't afford a new one so in February '71 I plunked down $3300 for a used '69. My wife and I had our first date in this car (I still have both) and navigated the L.I.E. from Bayside to Manhasset until we moved to Michigan in 1976. The rest, as they say, is history. Attached are 2 photos taken in March of '71 by my dad and a recent one taken after the car earned Chapter, Regional, and National Top Flight awards.

Very cool. we have similar stories. While in the AF I bought my '71 used in '72 because I could not afford a new one. Went on my first date with my wife in it and still have both.

In the mid 1980’s, I was on the high school track team and one of our training routes was on your street. Your silver ‘69 Corvette was oftentimes in your driveway as we ran by and remember thinking “One day I am going to own a ‘69 Corvette.” (Now I own 3)

Thank you all for your kind comments. It has been a great 50 years (with both the car AND the wife)!
Mike- I remember the day I "discovered" the 69 under the car cover in your garage when I was there doing some cabinet work. When you told me the story of seeing the silver 69 on some guy's driveway, I surprised you by telling that I knew the guy- it was me.
Greg- You are right that it is the Cross Island Pkwy in the background and a very young me in the foreground.

There is just something about a chrome bumper C3 in silver.
A friend had a 68 roadster in silver black top/interior with flat black hooker side pipes. If memory serves it was an L79, circa 1973. It was fast.
