There are 2 special nuts that are inserted into rectangular holes for the plate screws.

The page you were looking for was not found or has been deleted. Search Corvette Parts by year or category instead.

Now I get it. Thanks Rich. I couldn't picture that.

To install when the shifter is there, put a screw in it and fish it in position with needle nose pliers, grab the screw to hold it.

Then use a small tool to push the tabs inward to lock it in place.

I removed the transmission tunnel access panel that surrounds the shifter. It was not an easy task but next time will be a breeze. The panel is held on by several screws around the edge and is also attached with sealer which I had to remove with a chisel and puddy knife. Thanks to Richard Mozzetta for his input which helped me on this issue.

Thomas, Glad I was able to help, thanks for the note.

FYI, this was your original post re the tunnel cover I think you are referring to.

FWIW those special nuts that Richard refers to are available at a GOOD hardware store. They are 10-32 thread size and are about $2.50 each. Shifter pattern plate covers the screws. I installed so in my 61.
