    Since the two are apparently the same in configuration, I suspect that the difference is material grade with the 258779 being 280-M and the 5667628 being 300-M.

      So there are no visible markings (e.g., dots) or finish color differences between the grade 5 and grade 8 version of that nut?

        I don't know, for sure, if there was a material grade difference between the 2 nuts; I'm just postulating that. During the time period of the PRODUCTION change GM was converting other chassis fasteners from 280-M to 300-M. So, I'm just "extrapolating" on that.

        In any event, I can see no markings on either which might indicate material grade. Both appear to be "plain" finish.
