    1955 Rim

I have this old rim and have had some feedback that it might be a 1955 rim. It has rivets on the backside holding the wheel together. I'd like anyone's thoughts on what this rim is. It is about 6 inches wide with a 4.75 bolt pattern.

And the reason that you don't measure the width of the wheel is _____________? Any stampings on the part of the wheel that would be covered by the tire?

The width of the wheel is 16 1/2" across and there are no markings on the rim.

      Thanks

Look for markings in this area!

16 1/2" is the outside "diameter" of the wheel, including a 3/4" flange on both sides, ie, a 15" wheel. Width is the measurement between the "shoulders" of the flanges.

Correct. It is a 15" rim. Here are a few more pictures to decipher. Plus there is an "N" and a "T" stamped around of the lugnut holes in the front of the wheel.Letter markings.jpgTrademark.jpgTrademark.jpgCloser.jpg

Looks more like a 54 wheel.

There should be a date code stamping on the wheel. Attached is a photo of a 1949-1953 Chevrolet wheel dated "!2" and "51" (Dec. 1951), GM # 3687980, "15 X 5 K", 5/8" offset, and 2 29/32" hub hole. This wheel has 5 clips that are riveted to it. If the clips and rivets were removed it would be identical to a 1953 Corvette wheel, GM # 3699828, which did have the 5 small holes for the rivets.

According to my vintage Chevrolet Parts Catalogs GM # 3714744 is the part number listed for the 1954-1956 Chevrolet Pass. and Corvette wheel, 15 X 5 K, with a 9/16" offset.

I had a set similar to this that I bought as 56 chevy/Corvette wheels that were riveted and had no nubs on the outer rim for wheelcover retention and I thought they might be 5.5 RPO whells until I measured them at 5x5. Other than the no nub configuration they seemed to be identical to 55-56 wheels except there was no second ring bevel around the outer hub. All my research seemed to point to 54 since they definetly were not 53 but were different than 55-56.
