When I dropped the tank to retreive the tank sheet I measured mine.
1971 #21783 dimensions are as follows
35" long and 3" wide and approx 3/32" thick made from what appears to be tar paper like stock.

Gary, here is a photo of my original 67 fuel tank showing the original insulation pieces.
If you have access to an original tank you could verify my earlier posts on the subject, concerning lengths, by measuring distances.
The general conception on this forum is that "heavy" roofing paper will suffice for this application. (Many layers)

I was able to purchase some masticated rubber material that is 0.93" thick from DETROIT MUSCLE TECHNOLOGIES.
https://www.detroitmuscletechnologies.com/ They cut it to my spec of 1.5 & 2.0 widths.

      Worked perfectly.

          Stephen,

Regarding the material from Detroit Muscle Technologies, is masticated rubber the same material that is used for the front, upper A-arm flaps?

            Stephen,

I think the evidence so far would be mostly consistent if the long piece at the front used in 63-65, GM

This material is basically plain old roofing felt. I have removed some with roofing felt logos on them. Remember GM was cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mastigated material is like the flaps, except it is thicker; 0.93". I still have pieces of my original insulation removed from my tank, which also still had the tank sticker on it.
Jimmy Gregg: how thick was the roofing felt you removed? I could NOT find any roofing felt that was close to 0.93"

                    Gary,
I did not check the rear frame rail strip(s)- only the leading bolt in rail strip. Horrible photos however I do have them. Hope I am not dropping the tank anytime soon.

Jimmy - you are 100% correct - look at the white lines on the piece in the photo - those are for aligning shingles for the benefit of roofers - pretty big roofing felt manufacturer in western AL.

I have acquired an old roll of roofing material that is very close to the original stuff. It is 0.085 thick.

The judges are now going to be issued a micrometer and a caliper to check this out!

                          May God help the judges!

Hi, looking for an opinion on gas tank anti-squeak width on a oct 8 1965 built car . My car has alot of carry over 65 features so i am more inclined to use the 65 specs more so than 66-67 ones. Again just looking for an opinion
