66 fuel sender; preventing leaks at the terminals

This photo is of my fuel sender before sending it to John Wolf for restoration. (It looks much nicer after restoration, but I don’t have a photo handy.) The question I have is, will those plastic or nylon circular nuts really tighten up enough without cracking or stripping in order to squeeze the rubber gaskets underneath to prevent gas leaking from the tank? Or do people recommend using some additional gasket maker prophylactically?

Gary------
The gaskets, alone, have to prevent any gasoline leakage. If they are not up to the task, no additional, externally applied sealer is going to be effective. This is especially true of silicone RTV. Silicone RTV is not gasoline resistant. The only type of silicone that is gasoline resistant is flurosilicone. However, I don't think it's generally available in the automotive aftermarket. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
