Re: Twisted generator belt
I've linked an older thread with a similar discussion--see Clem's comments (post 12) regarding a "wrapped" design Corvair belt. Following that advice I found that a Gates 3V560 belt (56" x 3/8") fit my '62 just about perfectly. I have a 4" generator pulley, albeit with a passenger car generator. Nonetheless, the adjustment point is right around the middle of the slot in the arm, so I think it will accommodate some variation. The belt is non-cogged, and sits low in the pulleys. I have not road tested it yet--project not quite finished--but I'm hopeful it will work well. The 3V560 may be listed as an "industrial" belt but it is also sold in the major auto part chains including Rock Auto.
Corvairs of course have their own belt challenges, and this belt seems reasonably popular with those owners.
