Rumor has it (from old guys) that often the pointed bolts in black where used on the line since they were simpler to put into the hole.
On my car (Mar64) the AIM calls for the flat ones in bright zinc, however mine were the black pointed ones. Since I got a hit on that I've been watching for the past 10 years for what flavor has been used. Have photo's of an original 65 396 (NCRS certified) which are the black pointed ones and another one (not sure what C2 flavor it is) using same black pointed ones. Head marking - SEMS on top of a T

Consider when using the zinc they will show behind the grill.

        Alan,

Am I correct that pinch point bolts almost always means the bolt head will be untrimmed, i.e., indented?

          Gary,
These bolts from Paragon (called out in their catalog for a completely different application), look and sound like what you may be searching for. "E" headmark, 5/16-18 x 7/8"

I have the 12603k bolt kit from paragon that is a WB headmark with a lock washer and for the life of me why would you have a lock washer going into a thin fiberglass ear makes no sense to me

I agree. It makes little sense.
